As far as I aware some IP firms will do debt relief orders as do the CAB. Maybe the CAB would be the first port of call.

Hi
Companies that can arrange a Debt Relief Order are
1. CAB
2. CCCS
3. Baines and Ernst
4. IMA
5. National Debtline
6. Payplan

There may well be others but these are the original six allowed by the Secretary of State.
Regards

I know you are, but you hadn't said and I didn't know how much you knew about DRO's.

Sounds as though he could be an ideal candidate. It will cost him £90 and he should have not have more than £50 per month disposable income after rent etc., has been paid.

Get him to give one of the companies that Andy suggested a ring. It can't hurt.

Hi Wickerwish,

If he was thinking of a DRO one thing that he would need to think about is how long he is going to be out of work for. For example if he was to find a job within the twelve months this could take him over the £50 surplus and therefore revoke his DRO. So if it only a matter of time before he is back in work he maybe better making token payments and then increasing them when his situation improves. If he was to get a CCJ he could also look into an Admin Order as long as the debt is still below £5k.

Let me know how his appointment goes

Sarah

That is great advice from Sarah - and good that we have someone posting on the site who actually advises on this procedure in the real world. Thank you for your contribution, and sensible suggestion Sarah.
