I am a foster carer allocated an allowance from the government which is classed as income. I also receives other things on top of this which is purely for the child/children I am fostering. I would like to know if these 'extras' can be taken into consideration towards my debt.

Any allowances purely for the children should be classed as income, but countered by an equivalent expense -- thereby negating it. Chat to several firms as some are more sympathetic than others.

This money should not form part of your assessable income for debt repayments but no doubt some firms would try. There are guidelines for standard IVAs but then there are guidelines for foster carers and this is an entirely separate issue. The money paid is specifically for the use of the child and not for the debt repayments of the carer.

Make sure whatever firm you use has experience of similar situations.
