It was an emergency as we had no water and as he was just starting out on his own after splitting from his brother I think he was glad of the business.

We didn't insist that he came out, he offered. I think when you are a one man business you will go out most times.

Luckily Dave is a handyman so he can do any plumbing and electrical jobs, although we need British Gas if there's a problem with the boiler.

A word of warning about newer toilets. We had to have the water board out a few times for blocked drains and Dave was asked if we had a toilet with a half flush. As ours is old we haven't, and the man from the water board said that's a good thing as most of the half flush ones don't use enough water and therefore lead to more blocked drains.

We've never had a problem with a half flush and we've had two of them for quite a while.

I thought that Luke but apparently not! It's to do with the drains - you're probably ok Jan as your house is a fairly new build. Ours is old and the pipes aren't as good as they could be. I'm just hoping they won't need replacing, although I think the water board are responsible.

Ours is 23 years old, so not what I would class as a new build now. We only replaced the toilets within the past five years.

Mine was built 1850 and still standing so I guess that's a bonus, just no working boiler! x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hmm Skippy I am worried now lol. My house was built in the 1960's by the Local Authority so you can bet they scrimped on the drains!!

I've got a whole host of excellent plumbers on hand within the company my hubby works for but sadly the boiler is beyond repair so until we can find 2-3k which won't be while we're in an IVA then it has to stay as it is x

Newer than ours Jan - ours is a 1930s maisonette with shared drains, built on a flood plain!
