What about my husbands debts?

Hi. I have just entered an IVA but over the past couple of months we have found it difficult to pay my partner's debts as obviously my IVA calculation does not allow for his debts.

My husband has enquired as to whether he can apply for IVA or DMP but how would this work?
If he has to put my pay on to his budget(which he will) then he will surely have to put the same expenditures down which are on my budget. This would leave no money to pay off his debts as any surplus from that budget is going to my IVA. So how would his application work?

The allowances for expenditure on your IVA should relate to your share of household expenses, based on relative incomes --- his IVA will allow him his share.

Thanks Foggy. They didn't do this on my original IVA. The disposable income was all used on my IVA payments.

I have now got in touch with someone about paying extra due to overtime and Self employed work (as discussed previously) and they want me to do an income review. The budget form is much more detailed than in my application and allows me to put down partner's debts and things such as course fees for CPD (CPD that is allowing me to earn more money) which I have been using my extra income for.

I just hope they allow for the extra expenses as that's why I was doing the extra work in the first place - to pay for basics that that the first did not allow. Would seem unfair if they asked for all my extra income to go to IVA as in the original agreement I could earn 10% more and only pay 50% extra into it.

It's only been a few months but the IVA seems a constant stress!

Unfortunately, Fiona, your provider has a history of doing things their way, rather than the usually accepted ways --- sometimes with dire results --- so it is difficult to see exactly what they have done this time regarding the allocation of expenses. Hopefully this new review will make things easier.
