What Is A Grandparent?
(taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own. They like other people’s.

A grandfather is a man grandmother.

Grandparents don’t have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn’t play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also Why we shouldn’t step on “cracks.”

They don’t say, “Hurry up.”

Grandparents don’t have to be smart. But they have to answer questions like “Why isn’t God married?” and “How come dogs chase cats?”

When they read to us, they don’t skip. They don’t mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don’t have television, because they are the only grown-ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we’ve acted bad.

Have a nice day xxx

One of my nans was like that, but the other was the total opposite!

As none of those things apply to me I think I'll save it as proof that there's no way on earth Dave's grandkids should call me nan!

I only had one set of grandparents and they were a bit on the strict side! My nan did make a mean Victoria Sponge though!

My daughter only has one set of grandparents who still spoil her rotten!

I have step grandchildren and am quite happy to see them for a couple of hours here and there.

Hubby and me prefer to be on our own these days!

I love having the girls and sometimes I DON'T want to give them back!

We always love to hand them back!

Just don't do kids anymore - I have more patience with animals!

One of mine may as well live here she's here more than I am! I was at her birth and held her first so she's like my own and our bond is unbreakable. The others are grandchildren although the twins are very special and I can't help but say they're gorgeous!

I love my 6yr old as she knows I'm only 29 and says I'm beautiful and have no wrinkles and I'm the best grandmother in the world, I'll have England Julie you can have Wales lol x

The only birth I have ever been at other than my own, was my daughter - both for obvious reasons![:D]

Daughter was born by Caesarian and hubby was present as I had an epidural.

No way would I have wanted my mother with me!

I felt honoured that she wanted me at the birth of my granddaughter and now she is having another due in October and she has invited youngest daughter to go along which I think is lovely. However, if all goes well it's a home birth so sure I'll be needing to have a nose in on that one too! x

As and when my daughter has kids, I won't be asking to be there at the birth!

Her partner/hubby can be there and I'll see them when they're all cleaned up!

Something else I've just remembered as well, for the first few months of her life, daughter hated her grandparents and would scream every time she saw them.

I have no idea why.

I'd be mortified if any of mine screamed at me, hope that never happens.
