I wasn't allowed pets as a kid so I couldn't use that as protection!

If I was smacked then whatever I'd done wrong I either didn't do it again or I made sure I didn't get caught![:D]

At the risk of making myelf unpopular, its not always the fault of the parents.
I get some terrible looks at times when im out with my little boy. He doesnt "look" Autistic so why would anybody think he is? i suppose to them he looks naughty and people probably think "if he was mine i'd smack his back side"
Its all too easy to judge and not look at the bigger picture and im afraid thats what some people do....its human nature.

Now im not saying every child that comes across a naughty has "conditions" BUT how can we tell? We dont put signs over the kids heads explaining, nor would i want to.

Please dont think im pointing the finger at anybody because im not. All im saying is that people in general are too quick to judge.

I certainly dont agree with kids getting away with everything but i do think with the right support it could be a completely different story for SOME kids.

I quite agree Lisa, and having met Billy and loved him, it would be so easy to write him off as just another naughty child. Our neighbour has a severely autistic child who does not have Billy's communication skills and we could also say that he was just naughty.

I think that I benefited from being smacked, as did my daughter on the rare occasions it happened, and I would defend corporal punishment.

It is down to each individual though and we should never forget that there may be some extenuating circumstances if kids misbehave.

Well said Lisa...being a residential social worker prior to teaching, I have worked with a lot of children with emotionally challenging behaviour and there is a whole bigger picture and I know I always say it but I'm am very anti smacking. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
