If you are starting the IVA route and you had debts with your current bank then it is advisable to move banks now to one that you do not owe to - however avoid HSBC and First Direct as they close accounts of those in IVA /Bankruptcy with little notice. We are with the Co-op Smile Banking and also have a basic account with the Halifax. Others have said Natwest offer a good account too

If your bank is one of your creditors you will need to change to a bank that you don't owe money to. I would recommend doing this sooner rather than later as you may still be able to get a full account rather than a basic one.
