Hi I am thinking of applying for an IVA for debts of £30,000. I currently work for the inland revenue and am concerned this may affect my job as we have been told we must inform them if we are made bankrupt. Do I need to disclose that I have an IVA as obviously I'd rather not. Thank you.
I think it may well depend on whether or not it says anything in your contract of employment about an IVA.
You could always make an anonymous call to your HR department to ask or check up on your intranet.
If you're thinking of tackling your debts then I recommend that you speak to an expert. Visit www.iva.com for a list of companies and reviews. Give one or two a ring for free and impartial advice.

I work for a different government department. After checking my staff handbook, I was advised by my Trade Union that I didn't need to notify HR or my line manager.
If there is an overpayment of tax credits it would be necessary to inform HMRC of the IVA so they can claim. However, this is done by sending a copy of the proposal to a specific person at the insolvency unit in Worthing and it is completely confidential.
Otherwise there is no reason for HMRC to know of the IVA unless there is something specific in your contract.
