Are you in an IVA just now? If so its worth talking to your IP. If your rent covered the mortgage then it may be possible. You would have to inform your mortgage company.

Whilst it is important to inform your mortgage company, it is essential that you tell your house insurers. Under the terms of a standard residential policy, most insurers won't cover you but some for a small additional premium will allow you to do so. If they won't cover you, you need to get a new Landlord household policy which will be available from the price comparison websites. It simply is not worth not being insured because they will find out in the event of a claim.
