Sorry I know this is silly but it made me laugh .. [:D]

I got a letter form the Halifax - HBOS - saying that they don't love me anymore, and that as the OR has defrosted my account & has no intrest in it , that I must close my account as they wont let anyone that has or has had a BR have an account.
They sent me a form to close my account and remove all the funds. I could send it back to HQ or go to my local branch .... he he ..

It's a lovely day here , so I walked the 2 miles to the branch, stood in the queue to see a cashier, when I eventually got to the front I presented the cashier with the letter and forms and said that I wished to close my account and withdraw the remaining funds.

One very perplexed cashier, she called her supervisor, one confused supervisor called her boss, much toing and froing later I was asked to fill in another form ... by now the queue was nearly out of the door.. at one point there were 4 staff around the cashier.. the whole process took about 30 mins ... when I was eventually presented with the balance of my account .....

£1-52

I celebrated by buying a bottle of water and getting the bus home ..

ok I know Im warped [}:)]

Thanks Andy,
I had a 'fun' day, visiting the Halifax to close my account , had a good giggle when I left and then went to the RBS where i have another account and had a good blether with the staff in there and a nice cup of tea. They have been really pleasent about the BR.
Then popped round to the insolvency office to hand a letter in saying that I have no-one available to buy the beneficial interest in my house, had a good chat in there about them handing the property details over to their regional team to sort out my house ..
Then bought the bottle of water and got the bus home.. its all uphill, was vey hot and Im getting older every year.

All in all a nice day

Hi Mish,

How bizarre. I received exactly the same letter today from the Halifax saying they received information from the London Gazette regarding my Bankruptcy and i too need to clear my account. I have never had a bank account with the Halifax, only a credit card, so not sure what fund can be released to myself!!

Swardy ,
I have found the Halifax to be amusing .. they were a minor creditor with me but have been a bigger pain in the ar&e than NR .. persistent phone calls, daft letters and a bad attitude.

While I was in the queue this afternoon I noticed that they were advertising for staff ... wicked side of me wondered if I should apply .. then I noticed that that the email addy referred to halifax- retail .. I think that they perceive banking as retail .. maybe thats why there attitude sucks.

He he - you could always ask then to send you the balance of your credit card ... chuckles

lol mish it made me smile too! i quite agree about halifax being that pain they were also my smallest creditor and the way they treated me you would have thought i owed them millions, they put me on automated calls which went every half an hour and when you answered it was a computer generated voice asking me to call them!!!

John - thanks I already have a bank account, with debit card, cheque book , online banking , direct debit and standing order facilities.

Kerri .. if I sent them 100 emails a minute they could have me done for a denial of service attack, he he guess who works in IT .. not that I would ever do it of course .. but telling their bankruptcy team that seemed to put a stop to all their phone calls... chuckles

Mish, how come you managed to keep your cheque book? I had to surrender my cheque book and debit card to the OR. I've got a debit card now as I opened a Co-op Cashminder account.

Skippy - I was going to do an IVA and opened the next stage up co-op account, debt card, cheque book etc but no overdraft facility .. when I went BR, I told the OR about it and he was cool about it , just reminded me not to write any bad cheques, the co-op were ok too , same deal dont write any bad cheques .. everyone seems happy with it. I have only writen one cheque so far - mortgage, and have set up all my d/d's on the account for utilities etc .. the debt card is ok too - its a visa debit card ( no credit ) that I use in tescos, paid my BT bill with it over the phone.

Its a coop basic current account - the next one up is a privledge account but I wouldnt want that as it allows overdrafts up to £100 free of charge.

It may have helped that the account was set up before I went BR, I had already arranged to have my wages put in there and of course I was credit checked before I went BR - I had a great credit rating as I had paid all my debts ..but had no money to live on.

Lucky ?

That's really good Mish. The OR took my Lloyds chequebook and debit card and when they confirmed that I could keep the account open Lloyds wouldn't let me have a debit card! They sent me a stupid cash card that I can only use at a Lloyds cashpoint (don't find many of those at petrol stations!) and when I asked for a debit card told me to try again in 6 years because of 'my circumstances'! I took great delight in opening the Cashminder account and closing the Lloyds one!

Skippy - how far into BR are you ? .. it may be worth asking the coop for a current account once you have had the cashmider for a couple of months .. hopefully they should be able to upgrade it ..

I am of course very old, a respectable member of society, have a really nice attitude, a pleasent demenour, a wonderful scottish accent, am unfailingly polite, ex public schoolboy, work for the local constabulary ... and modest too .. chortle

I'm 4 1/2 months in now Mish - it's actually going quite quickly. I will ask the Co-op, but if they don't let me I'll manage - the Electron is ok, and I've got a pre-paid card for emergencies as well.
