Hi
Sorry its a while since i been on here but it all got to much for me and i have had a little time hiding away,
As most of you know our IVA was rejected in march and we were adviced to go on DMP for a few months which we did.
A few of our debts have been sold on two off which being barclaycard they have been sold to a company called MERCERS my partners was a really large amount and when they contacted him they were quite nice to him. However my debt was for for 400 pounds and when they spoke to me they were quite nasty, they threatened me with debt collectors coming to my door etc etc etc..
Anybody know anything about them
Also whenever i speak to my DMP advisors they just seem to say that everything happening is standard and not to worry about it...... how can i not worry?? they also say that debts being sold on is better and this is a good thing?? is it really does anyone know.
i once agin feel like everything is on top of me i'm not coping very well at all... so here i am returning to the people that i know will be kind and have some good advice....

Hi Julie
We are still waiting for our IVA proposal! (Another story) But Mercers used to ring us all the time some of them nice some not so nice. In the end I asked the IP client adviser to ring them direct and so far no more phone calls.
I think the smaller the debt the harder they try because they think they have more chance of getting you to pay that amount? But's thats only my guess
With regard to selling on debts I have read somewhere else that its better as they will accept a smaller F&F figure (Usually they buy the debt for 10p in the £) If I'm not correct I am sure an expert will correct me. But just wanted to give you some reassurance that it is normal - Post again if you need some support.
Best wishes

Hi ya,
we have done things the other way around you, that is only because we were living in scotland for a while when we got into financial difficulty so an IVA was out of the question at that point. We have been in a DMP since Feb and yes everything your going through is normal. We have had numerous phone calls, demanding letters, default notices and solicitors letters. My only advice to you is that this is perfectly normal....just keep forwarding all correspondence to your DMP manager and let them know if things are getting tough. We did have one debt for £359 that was sold before we went onto the DMP and they rang with the heavy push. So after a week I rang them and offered to pay £70 not thinking for a moment that they would except But they did!! I couldn't belive it. other companies havent been so good though hence the IVA. Not sure if this offer situation is possible whilst on A DMP though coz it may have an effect on your other creditors but I'm sure the experts on the forum will help you out. Try not too worry there are planty of us with you in the bobbing boat x
Why spend life worrying...when you can spend it smiling!!

Julie we have had many phone calls and letters where they say they will send debt collector to the door. Remember that they have no right of entry and a authorised baliff only has right of entry if you invite them in or leave a window open - I saw a reply to someone else that had asked the same question and I think it was Storm who answered it fully, maybe Admin can find the thread?
It will pass just keep asking the questions and be strong - Why not ask your DMP to contact Mercer's on your behalf?
I can't offer anything else I'm afraid just want you to know that you are not alone.

It seems as though the creditors that you owe the least to are the worst to deal with. I owed Natwest £27k and they were lovely, didn't hassle me and sent me all the information I needed for my IP, whereas I owed Littlewoods £80 and they have been a pain in the bum even now I'm BR - they keep sending letters and statements and have been rude to my mum when she answered the phone.

Hi J_d
Alot of it is scaremongering,so just focus on the DMP.If you do get a door step collector turn up[and it is unlikely] just say that you are setting up a DMP and you will not be paying anything or discussing it and close the door. They have no rights or powers.
As some of your debts have been sold on you may be in a better position to try again for an IVA in a few months.

Hi
Trust your DMP company but keep a good line of communication with both your creditors and DMP.
Ask your DMP provider if they have started sending out payments.
