Because of staff shortages I might have to return to working shifts, for which an allowance is paid. This will be for a relatively short period. Will this be treated as overtime with the requisite 50% to be paid or will it be treated as part of my salary and my monthly payments increased?

Hi
Only your IP can answer that one but my gut feeling is that it will fall under the 50% clause.

I think that you could argue it either way, as shift allowances are part of salary and not usually treated as overtime, however as the 50% uplift provision also generally covers additional income of any sort, you can expect to pay over half of your increased earnings.
