Has anyone had to take anything big back to tesco without a reciept? I bought a tele in january and it,s broke and unforunatley i have lost reciept, I know the date i bought it was in jan cos i got two within a week. I found recieept for the one that is still working and i bought the broken one the week after that one. Good job i have had to buy some new glasses this week so i can see the smaller tele better.I have tried ringing tesco and emailing them but cant get throught on phone and got no response on email. Any ideas?

Have you rang the Head Office or just the Store?...A few years back when I wanted to check first before taking back an item, can't remember where it was now, but I couldn't get through to the store I bought it from so I tried ringing a different store and got through to them, so that maybe worth a try? if you don't get an answer from the store you bought it from,a bit bad though that you're having this problem...Good Luck and I hope you get it sorted, I'd hate to be without our Telly,it's our only source of entertainment nowadays[:(], apart from the forum..[:)]

In the Tesco near me there is a notice saying that they cannot accept returns without a receipt. I've no idea how strict they are about it though.

I think they have that notice in our Tesco's as well, but it is worth equiring. They can sometimes tell by the model of TV as to when it was stocked in the store.

On a different note, I bought a few bits in Tesco on saturday, nothing major, and I got a voucher for £12 off next time I spend £60 or more which is a significant saving. Don't know how long the offer is on for though.

Typical! I usually go to Tesco, but as there was a Race for Life and the Hampton Court Flower Show all in the same direction I decided to go to Sainsburys instead!

did you use your clubcard as they can trace back 12 months i think or your bank statement can be used as proof if it is on there.

I managed to find reciept and take tele back no problem tesco were spot on

Just noticed this post and thought I would add my experience, albeit with Sainsburys.

My in-laws bought an LCD TV from the local store and within 2 weeks it was playing up. However, they had lost the receipt and were worrying about it. I told them not to, and to just take it back, but armed with the bank statement showing the purchase.

My reasoning behind this was two-fold.

1. They are under no legal obligation to give you a receipt in the first place. Therefore you don't have to show the receipt.

2. All you need is a proof of purchase. The bank statement and their computer records would be able to prove purchase.

Result = A reduce price upgrade on their TV, as Sainsburys didn't have the one they had return in stock.

They didn't actually need the bank statement, the debit card records were sufficient as proof of purchase.

I guess a loyalty card would be equally sufficient.

Not sure where you stand paying cash and you didn't have a clubcard though. I think you would need the receipt then, as there would be no other proof of purchase linked to you as the purchaser.

You don't need receipts if you can prove another way of purchase - would be difficult with cash but its always worth a try.

On a slightly different note, I am led to believe that there will be a voucher in tomorrows Daily Mail for £20 off your shopping at Tescos. I don't know the terms and conditions but may well be worth a look.

Bet you have to spend a certain amount, and the £20 will be spread over a few shopping trips!
