Can anyone suggest a cheap, reliable anti virus programme for my computer? My Norton is due to run out on 18th October and would very much like to find an alternative.

I use AVG the free version on my PC and my laptop and my daughter has Avira free version on hers and no problems to report whatsoever from me on either package.

I think they are different PD.
I've used AVG in the past, and if it wasn't for the fact that I get free security with BT, I would use it again.

Most of them are good as well. Zone Alarm is a particularly good firewall as well and can be had for free.
I have loads of free anti spyware and anti malware on my computer as well.

We had Zone Alarm a few years ago and I wasn't impressed - it blocked too many things and was nearly impossible to uninstall it! We use MacAfee now. It wasn't free but Dave got quite a big discount on it as he got it when he bought a new lap top.

I loved Zone Alarm when I had, and actually upgraded to the paid version a few years ago.
I have the one which came with BT as that's all in with the price I pay.

I use Avast now, one of the best free ones around
I did have AVG professional on a years free licence. It was one of those "sign up for a partner offer and we will cover the licence fee" things. Was a bit dubious but gave it a go. Found one of the offers was a weeks free access and 25 free downloads of a music site (a legal one btw) cancelable at any time. So I signed up, downloaded, canceled and received my licence for a year of AVG Pro. Will try and find the site name for the offer

Thank you for reminding me - I've got a new laptop and the free anti virus expires next week. Dave has just signed up to McAfee for another year so I'll have his spare licence!

Up until a month ago i would have said Avira, free and the 2nd highest detection rates of ANY antivirus (even paid for ones)
BUT, now.. Microsoft Security Essentials.. Yup, i expected it to be rubbish too (MS etc).. but it has rates of detection as high as anything else and the cpu usage is a LOT better than most of the other packages and getting rave reviews everywhere. Antivirus, anti spyware all in one.

Having had a new laptop, I now use Comodo Anti Virus and Firewall and it seems fine so far. It's also free.
I tried to download AVG and Zone Alarm but I don't think they like Windows 7.
To be fair, I much prefer Vista.
