Hi all - have to share this.

One of our regular treats before reality dawned over our financial situation was to buy a box full of the Thorntons toffee. It tastes heavenly and keeps the wife quiet for ages chewing it. bonus. Anyway it costs about 4 quid a box!!
(I've just realized that this is the only place I could have a debate over 4 quid)

Anyway, since being introduced to the ways of the frugal I have stumbled upon a recipe to make my own - and its wife approved too!!
Dead basic and cheap ingredients and probably takes an hour (and a lot of stirring) Ive managed to do it first time. The only time I failed was when I tried adding some Jack Daniels, but I will perfect this.

The recipe is on..www.epicurious.com/recipes just do a search for special chewy toffee.
Instead of using Lyles golden syrup, tescos own does the job much cheaper.
You can also add mixed chopped nuts just before you pour, if you like!!
