I realise it's a bit out of season for this but it's a good time to get planning for it.

I only have a small garden but I have grown loads of courgettes this year. If you like courgettes I heartily recommned you grow some next year. They are so productive and easy to care for and can go in pasta, salad, mexican, chinese, indian, anything!!

I usually start mine on a window sill, plant 12 seeds, usually get 8-10 come up, grow them on indoors until the risk of first frost has gone and plant them out.

I tend to plant them indoors end of Feb and usually large by time go outside in May and have got a good head start and you get more courgettes. One plant can yield as many as 50 courgettes in a good year and bad year can still be a few dozen.

All for usually £2.50 for a packet of seeds!! Especially when 3 small courgettes will cost you £2 in the shops.....

A very good post Luke, I wouldn't personally eat them and to be fair never use them but I'm sure daughter and hubby would like them. x

You should grow them some lesley, it would save a fair bit on the food bill if you can bulk up dishes with this versatile veg.

Hmmmm love corgettes, never thought about growing them though, could you use a pot instead of a ground plot as our backyard is concrete.. Do they need supports or anything

Oh by the way before someone asks, I do not work for the Courgette Council of Britain lol [:P]. I wonder if such an organisation exists.....

Pandy you can use pots or grow bags (I would suggest grow bags unless you use massive pots as one the ones I have grown in pots haven't done so well).

I have grown them one year in bags in a concrete yard no problem. They are not like weak tomatoes, they need ZERO support. Just water everyday if no rain and use a feed in the water once a week to give them a boost. Since I first did it 5 years ago I have always grown them, no idea why people pay for these things during the summer when they can grow them easily!!

Really going to have a go at this now sounds good and I love them so for me well worth it, they are so nice cooked on a BBQ. Remind me at the time when you are doing them as I know I will forget come next Feb.

Haha yeah it is a way off, I'll bump this thread at the time. I have just set a reminder in my phone to tell me to do it hahaha.

Agree you canna beat a bit of beef, courgette, peppar and mushroom done on a skewer on the BBQ mmmmm.

Mind you, I never used to like parsnips and I love them now!

Mmm parsnips!! Reminds me of an ex-girlfriend I was out with and we had all-you-can-eat buffet, she loaded up her plate with roast parsnips thinking they were chips and said 'Uhhh these chips taste funny!' [:D ]
