We have used AOL for our internet for about 7 years, it has gradually gone up and up each year, so that we have recently been paying £30 per month for broadband 8mg.

In a recent review of our DD's, trying to reduce our outgoings, we finally decided to switch to Sky for Broadband.

Although we had some resevations about the quality of Sky and none with AOL it was a massive saving per month.

So money being tight, I phoned AOL for our migration code, I explained that we were looking elsewhere for our internet provider.

Low and behold, the sales lady said "Oh OK but have you not received an email with our current offers", of course I hadnt, but 5 minutes after putting the phone down having obtained my Migration Code, I DID.

They offered me exactly the same as what were paying £30 a month for now for £9.99.

Amazing isnt it.

Whilst I was a bit miffed that it took me to ring up and cancel to get the offer, we are happy with our connection with AOL so decided to stay.

Well worth a phone call to save £20 a month.

In case anyone is worried, they don't cancel your connection when they give you the migration code, it is only if you ring back and actually ask them to cancel.

The following monthly, as promised, my bank statement showed a payment to AOL of only £9.99, no problems, no further phone calls required.

Hope this helps others out there.

Thats great info,just shows you the savings out there.If you are in an IVA then try to make any savings to household costs just AFTER your annual review.This way you can enjoy the savings until your next review,otherwise you will be passing this saving directly onto your creditors.

I thought that this would happen to me when I rang to cancel my Sky subscription when I was starting the IVA process. I was paying the full £43.50 and expected to get offered a reduced subscription, but they just accepted my cancellation it without argument! To be honest, we've not really missed it, but with the footie season starting this weekend we make think differently! Anyway, I can't justify or afford it now, so I'm sure I'll get over it. Match of the Day can't be that bad, can it?

Setanta have 46 live Premier League matches this season and this can be bought at £9.99 / month with no minimum subscription as a top up to freeview.

A bit off topic hear, but does anyone know if Sky have done away with Prem Plus, their PPV footy channel? We usually get it but I can't find any mention of it anywhere.

I recently swaped from the Sky basic package,£20 ish,to virgin cable for £10 and they do broadband for £10 and phone landline for £10.I think the cable is as good as sky with added options such as you can view programmes that you may have missed from the previous day etc.

Skippy Prem Plus has gone for this season as Sky is sharing live coverage with Setanta.

I've considered the Setanta offer of £9.99 per month, but it seems too good to be true. Have I missed something? The advert says that 30 days notice is required to cancel and since being in an IVA I'm ultra cautious about committing to anything now. Oh, for those carefree days of not having to think about the consequences of spending money you don’t have! (Joke).

I think they have pretty much taken over the Prem Plus games, which used to cost an extra c£10 month (may be wrong) so I think it is pretty kosher.

I agree about the advert. Des Lynam lives near me and I've met him before and he is very nice, but yes the girl is annoying. I'm told that she was the "fake" Australian in Big Brother, but that really means nothing to me.
