Welcome to the forum.
Whilst in an IVa you need a bank account that is not associated to any of your creditors in any way. Halifax, Co-Op and Nationwide are all banks that I know will work with people in an IVA situation. Some of the accounts offer a simple Visa Electron card, others like the Co-Op Smile Internet Banking account offer Visa Debit with Cheque book.
Whilst in an IVA you are not allowed any credit of any kind therefore no overdraft facility is permittable.
hope this helps

I agree with size 5 . We have opened a cash minder recently . You get a visa electron card ,which we have had no problems using it anywhere. You can have online banking with this account and the customer services is fab.

Hi
We have a Lloyds TSb cash account with debit card for all our direct debits and bills. We also have a smile current acount with debit card and cheque book for school stuff and housekeeping, I also have a savings account with smile where I put my monthly dental, car, options etc..etc..
These are all done online. Brilliant, no problems so far.

Keep asking questions but its the only way - sorry. I was thinking of trying the Abbey for bank account although I am not terribly impressed with the way they run things but my mortgage is with them and I thought it might be a good idea. If I open an account and then go into an IVA would they be funny about things or would they not know.

First Direct gave me a month to close my account in July of last year, and I tried Smile as I already had a savings account with them but they would not let me open a current account, although I could keep the savings.

I tried Abbey but by the time they replied, I had already opened a Cash Minder account with the Co-Op. If you can, go into the branch and speak to someone - they are pretty good and it really only takes 10 minutes or so. I did try to open a savings account with them but was refused which I found rather odd ! I wanted to keep things in one place, but I still have my Smile savings account anyway.

Good luck.
