Well we have took the plunge with Thomas Charles - fab support and sense so far, though changing accounts and cancelling debits was scary today! We have never missed a payment and have half killed ourselves to stay afloat, so risking the wrath of creditors feels mental - necessary but very unsettling. I am dreading work taking so long to swap wages to the new account that we dont have enough in it to pay the essentials[8)]
Why are we in debt? well 10 yrs ago cancer and subsequent unemployment. pregnant teenager, hell with son, redundancy and ill health kind of sums it up - we got a bad run thats for sure! We are told this is the beginning of a new life - makes you emotional and scared doesnt it? I am so worried that my family - judgemental to say the least- will put the boot in . We were supposed to move back nearer to them but have decided to stay put, consolidate and pay our debts so there is an emotional chat coming up to admit we are not moving - I do not want to say why, as they label us as spenders when the majority of debt has been about survival! I dread that chat almost more than an IVA creditors meeting right now[:(!] Isnt it just so unsettling ? I am excited that we can make a difference - hopefully that is and somehow have some peace of mind in 5 years or so, and in the same breath worried to death at the transition![V]

I would say that you are vunerable right now but you are doing what you can to address your debt problems. It takes a lot to admit you have a problem, let alone do something about it, I dont think there is a person alive that hasnt got some degree of debt and we all know how easy it is to fall into an indebtedness hole. Never thought I would get here.

So take the next step, explain what youre going through and just how vunerable you feel, take what 'they' might say on the chin. Often if you show your soft underbelly people will respect you and it often changes relationships for the better. If not then pat yourself on the back for facing up to everything and start that new life, now with being totally honest and living within your means.

The weeks sorting everything out and leading up to the meeting are really hard. Do as your company says change everything that you can over to the new account, I got a nice coffee and sat with my pile of household debits and changed them all over. You will get calls though if you are up to date it could take a week or two for them to notice, but just give them your info ref etc and dont be drawn into paying anything unless your company says to make token payments, if they are rude just tell them you are terminating the call. We were like you up to date with everything until we applied but we were living on overtime and suffering with nothing just to pay the bills. I hope all goes well for you, we are all here if you want a moan or some support.
I pushed my wages by telling them the other ac had been closed and they had to either pay to the new one or by cheque and they did.
