Hi all,
I wrote to my IP the other week and not heard anything. The question was is it possible to pay by cheque each month which would also include 50% overtime instead of D/D. I would have a greater control of my finances. Do you think that is possible??? Anybody out there do that??

Paying by cheque should not cause you any problems - but you will need to be disciplined to ensure that they are sent on time every month.

Hi
I used to pay by cheque and as you say you feel more in control, however Melanie makes an excellent point in that you must be disciplined otherwise you will fall behind.

I have lots of clients who are paid 4 weekly - so why not arrange for a standing order to be made to coincide with your paydates. To work out the payments - take your monthly contribution times by 12 and divide by 13. The payments are lower and psychologically they seem more affordable!

Hi Again
Four weekly can be a godsend because if you use this as your monthly pay and manage to cover all your bills you have a whole four weeks of pay to yourself.[13x4 weekly pay dates each year as oppossed to twelve monthly pay dates]

Can you not amend the date of the standing order yourself? If I need to change mine I can go into my online banking and make whatever changes I want without contacting the bank.

U know u great people give me great advice and the IP brings me down to earth."I WILL NOT ACCEPT CHEQUES AND WE DON'T DO STANDING ORDERS".

Well thanks anyway I will revert to plan B.

It has been interesting these last months, it has been fun so far if you treat any other way You would lose the plot. I still get strange looks when I go shopping with my calulator. I have now tried Tesco's and Sainsbury's. Sainsbury's is £8 per week more expensive but some items are better. I am not doing bad with my internet banking not been overdrawn yet and Nationwide is good for any changes. Anybody out there who is considering IVA, then go for it, but you must cut your cloth and you soon realise how much money you use to waste. This is good, 4 months I have changed the way I live. Not bad!!!!

I just don't know why all IPs can't be as nice as Melanie ... the world would be a much brighter place!

And don't worry about your calculator in Tescos ... all those people who are not using a calculator are probably in debt!

If you didn't laugh through it all you would just go crazy!

How about using the calculator on your mobile phone? Anyone who notices will think you're texting!

I agree that Sainsburys is better than Tesco - the buy one get one frees are better value and they have healthier stuff on offer.

Hi Markiboy
I wouldn,t give a monkeys whether my IP accepted cheques or not. They won,t fail your IVA over it.If you want to pay by cheque, because it is better and suits you, then do that.
Whats important is that your IVA is paid in full,as per the t+c,over the five years.

I can't believe that they won't accept cheques or standing orders! Talk about making a difficult situation even worse!

I agree with Andy - payment by cheque is as good as any other sort of payment. I even have people turning up at my office with cash - and that is equally fine too. Some firms just appear to be so inflexible, and I am sure they would be happy to draw their fees if you were paying them by cheque!

It is about time to see some feedback on these firms so that other forum posters can avoid such situations.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how it's paid so long as it is. I'd love to see your ip try to explain to creditors that payments have failed because they refused to accept them!
I was told that I had to set up a standing order rather than a direct debit as the whole idea was to put me back in control of my finances.
