I wonder... If I had gone BR at the beginning as my DMP & IP suggested and so said boooo to my career, would all my debt payments now be all behind me and finished up already?
I am 44 payments of 72.

dots if you had gone BR you would have been discharged after 12 months, an ipa depending on your surplus income if over £100 per month may have been put in place for 3 yrs but the amounts can change if your circumstances did, it would still be on your credit file for 6 yrs, as long as you didn't get a BRu/BRO then if you have been paying into your iva for over 3 yrs then it would have been all over.
hope things pick up for you soon

Hi Gordon,
Its definitley possible that all your debts would be behind you by now if you had gone bankrupt. It all depends on your circumstances but usually individuals are only declared bankrupt for 12 months (sometimes less) and if you can afford to do so make payments for up to 3 years.
If you have already made 44 IVA payments you are well on your way to finishing, keep your eyes on your debt free future [:D]

i know dots you are having a rough time at the moment, would going BR really affect your job, when i had my OR interview he told me i wouldn't have to tell my employer but i did and he has been very understanding, i like you tried every option available before i went down the BR route but was hit by a brick wall all the time, it has been the best decision that i had made, wished i had done it sooner, i am now nearly 6 months in and it has flown by, it hasn't been a walk in the park but the relief from the mail and the constant phone calls is immense, i do hope things look up for you and i hope you sort out the rotten thing,(can't swear on here obviously) that has taken your money out of your account.

I agree with Kerri. Like her I spoke to my boss about my BR and he was fine - really supportive and he assured me that my job was safe. I was in an IVA before I went BR. I only made 4 payments before it became obvious that there was no way I was going to survive for 5 months let alone 5 years!
I really admire anyone who gets through their IVA.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Will you be going to Andy's meeting on 6th October in Bristol? I am hoping to attend [:)]
After I completely missed Andy & co. in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago I wonder if we could all agree to be carrying a copy of the FInancial Times so we can recognise each other!!!
