Paul

It sounds like you need to do a simple income and expenditure exercise. Take a piece of paper and total your income. Then list all of your living expenses (but non of your unsecurred debt payments - credit cards, loans etc). Take your living expenses away from your income and you will be left with your Disposable income. This is the amount you have in the month to save, pay off debt or blow on beer. You can not spend more than this otherwise you will start robbing Peter to pay Paul

When budgeting this simple exercise can give you a real insight into your finances. The difficult thing is actually having the discipline to stick to your budget. No one can do that for you but you.

James is too modest here, but he has recently written a very excellent book (you can buy it on Amazon) covering this very subject. Find further details of this on his webite.

I have read the book and it really does contain some very useful tips about general household budgeting - that even I have learned a few tricks (to my husband's delight!!!)
