Hi Everyone,
i would just like to know which iva company is everyone with,and is anyone with Cleardebt,or have been with Cleardebt

There are various IVA companies out there, you should consult a few companies and see who you feel most comfortable with.
I'll leave it to those currently in an IVA to recommend but I would advise reading some other posts on the forum as there is plenty of glowing reports on various IVA companies..

Welcome to the forum.

IVAs are administered by Insolvency Practitioners (I.P.s), and there are many based all over the U.K. As in all walks of life though, some are better than others, so finding a reputable I.P. when you need one is not always straight forward.


A common way of finding an I.P. is to use an intermediary IVA company. The intermediary IVA company will assess your case and, if an IVA proves to be a viable option, they would normally suggest a reputable I.P. company to help you. This in itself can lead to uncertainty because, as with the Insolvency Practitioners, some intermediary IVA companies are better than others.
The choice as to which IVA company to use is crucial.


So, how does a person decide which IVA company is the most suitable from the many available to choose from?
A good starting point is to use an IVA company that has been recommended to you by someone you know. However, if this is not possible, using the internet or looking at the forums like this one is a useful way to find IVA companies which offer this service.

Use the tips below to establish which IVA company you are most comfortable with:

1. Be comfortable with the adviser that you speak to.
2. Be sure that the IVA company you are using has carried out a thorough analysis of your circumstances.
3. Be sure that they talk through all your alternatives.
4. Do not be persuaded by IVA companies offering unrealistically low payment IVAs.
5. Look for a money back guarantee.
6. Let your instincts guide your decision.

Hi Marie and welcome. Yes I would agree with Melanie. Cut out the middle men and deal direct with an approved Insolvency Practitioner. You will be in a safe pair of hands if you can get Melanie to take on your case. I lost 4 weeks with the Debt Counsellors just ***** footing around. Just remember that the IP's have to make a living. More often than not they have high work loads and must work long hours. The main objective is for you to end up with an IVA that you can afford to manage and see through it's term.

I am with Thomas Charles as an intermediary - they seem to be very efficient - a week in and I am putting my ststement of affairs together. My only conern is they have not told me which IP they are gpoing to place me with - they will choose one best for my circumstances - should I just trust their judgement - they seem very good and clearly contribute to this forum? - anybody else got experience of them [?]

They will charge an extra two months (but this is refunded if it fails which seems reasuring!) and they tell me they have 95% success rate

I can understand Melanies point regarding cutting out the "middle man" but I,m not sure if this is always the correct way forward.Using an intermediary can be useful,a little like using a mortgage broker to find the correct mortgage for you.
The problem that we have in the industry is that some intermediary companies are proving to be giving poor advice.You really need to do a little bit of homework before committing to a particular company.

I think I'm correct in saying that Thomas Charles are affiliated with Accuma Group so it is likely that your case will be forwarded to them. TC do use other IP's but probably more in the complex cases rather than relatively straightforward ones.

My IVA was with Accuma, and although it failed I can't really fault Accuma. All I would say is make sure that your income and expenditure is correct, and that everything that you spend is listed and accurate, and don't sign it until it is! There were a couple of inaccuracies on mine, and because I was so grateful that something was being done about my debts I signed anyway.

If you are referred to Accuma you'll be fine - there was always someone to answer my questions, and if my case manager wasn't available she either rang me back or another member of staff could help me.

Another thing I would have done (with that wonderful thing called hindsight!) is asked if it would be possible to have a more local IP. Accuma are based in Manchester and I'm in Middlesex so a face to face meeting wasn't an option! I don't know if it would have made any difference to my situation, but maybe if I'd actually seen my IP I might have felt more able to question things.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I went with a company that i had rather a large misunderstanding with and the iva was failed,but i must admit i have since had advise from numerous companys and although at the moment i am dealing with my creditors for 6 months to let the dust settle personaly i feel you will get no better than Melanie Giles,of all the companys i contacted for advise Melanie was honest and upfront and explained everything so that i understood exactly why my previous iva had failed and what will be needed when resubmitting a viable iva in the future.
I am hopeing that when im ready this will still be an option for me.
As i say it is your choice and you can contact as many companys that you want but for knowledge and expertise i would fill out one of Melanies forms on her website.

I'm with Accuma after using Thomas Charles. Can't really fault the service of either of them.

A couple of things unclear in the final documentation from Accuma once the IVA was accepted but they were cleared up quickly.

2 down 58 payments to go!!

I used Thomas Charles and they where realy helpful, the IP used in my case was Wilson Phillips, who where also great and got my IVA accepted first time. so I would recommend them both.
