I happened to see a bit on GMTV this morning with money saving expert Martin Lewis and he was talking about the importance of budgeting and has some handy forms on his site to help with this.

I hope this link works

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/bankin ... t-planning

If not go to www.moneysavingexpert.com , click on Banking/saving tab, scroll down and you will see Budget Planner under Bank Accounts heading.

I hope this is of use

Many thanks Emma for the link!

I had a browse at this and personally I don't think it is hard enough.

I am afraid my advice for those in debt is to move over to a bankruptcy/IVA attitude ie scrap credit cards, overdrafts, and look for a structure that will clear your debt problem over a forseeable period.

Sadly this bit of advice was not there!

I wonder whether we could do a better job by having a forum that deals with all aspects of debt.

Sorry to be negative but I think we know how to survive without debt and we are better people for it!

Don't think that's negative Ray, you're quite right. But for some folk struggling out there, not yet past the brink, surely any advice that raises their awareness of money, spending and budgetting must be better than none...?

Perhaps Martin over the Christmas period I will send an e mail to them telling them my thoughts and do it in a positive way!

Agree any advice is better than none!

Not a bad idea, you never know, they might consider updating the site to include some better advice around sound financial discipline. Anything to make people more aware of the options would be beneficial.
