Hi all..just wondered if all your friends/family know about you being in/doing/completed an IVA/DMP?

Unless you tell them or they check the Insolvency Register .(highly unlikely), then they won't.

absolutely not, our finances (or lack of them) are totally private.

I dont think it was that kind of question Jan,more a have you told anyone about your debt type one.
I told nobody about our money troubles,14 year old son was told 2 years in,but nobody else.

You know Paul, our daughter is 13 and we keep thinking in another year or so we might talk to her about it, how did your son react? and how much did you tell him? I don't want to her spend her life worrying for us that's what puts me off, but by the same token, I think it would make life a little easier if she knew

True, in that case, my daughter and stepkids know and that's all.

My best friend knows and another work colleague who by chance is now also in an IVA knows - apart from that I think my parents suspect we've not much money but knowing the extent of the debt would have upset them too much to tell them - as for everyone else it's nobody's business but ours so I don't discuss money or lack of it at all x

Thanks all..I'm like you Til, my parents know we are struggling but I know they would be highly disappointed if they knew how bad and the reasons behind it! They know we are 'sorting' it out and after a few 'chats', they seem to be finally realising what we are going through and offering support rather than criticism
I love this forum!! It answers all the questions I have and even those I dont have! I'm on here more than facebook at the moment lol!

I know what you mean Vimto - this forum allows us to talk about the dreaded taboo of money when we need to - when in the 'real' world its not that easy - thank heaven for this place

They would be really upset and disappointed and as they are extremely elderly then I couldn't do it to them.

our families do not know we are in an IVA. I am surprised they actually believe we are 'flush' as we never complain about having no money, don't have an overdraft and pay for most things in cash. It just reinforces the decision we made to enter an IVA and get our life back on track, it will continue like this once the IVA is complete as well.
