Any profession can be adversely affected by bankruptcy as a non bankrupts clause could be entered into the terms and conditions of any employment.

However the majority of employments would not be affected.

The main careers that are would be
Armed Forces
Police
Government Workers
Civil Servants (if working with money)
Financial Advisers
etc...

Are there any professions that could or would be affected by an Individual voluntary arrangement?

Yes there are some, my last job would have prohibited me from having an IVA. However, this is extremely rare.

I dont know about the all the professions Oliver stated but I do know that if you are already in the armed forces then being in an IVA has no effect (OH in navy) as employers do not need to know. He's been in an IVA for 2.5 years.

However if you had to fill out a new security clearance form then it would be highlighted as they also do credit reference checks. This was the case with hubby and they sent an additional detailed expenditure/income form for him to fill in which specifically asked about IVA's etc and we had to detail all our finances. He still managed to receive his security clearance but they stated that they had concerns about his financial position and would review him again within 24 months and possibly a face to face interview. Luckily he no longer needs to fill out a new form.

Sorry misread your post as the poster above quite rightly says members of the Armed Forces as well as the Police etc... will not be affected by an IVA.

I tried to apply for a job in a call centre last week and they wouldn't even let me apply because they wanted to check credit rating and I told them of IVA. They stopped application there and then because they said I'd have to have a clear credit record
I have often wondered how messing up your money affects your ability to do a job, but there you go a long road to find a decent job.
