After a very hard week trying to get contracts exchanged some bright spark decided to call a meeting!

It has been called for 5.30pm today at my house. Apparently the surveyor has stated in a report a support is missing on the roof!

Went up this morning and sue enough there was a missing bit!

Oh! goes my remark!

How my roof has stood up to snow, 100mph gales, thousands of gallons of water landing on it and has not collapsed is amazing. But as a builder who I know has said that everyone forgets about the joists and other bits of wood suppporting it and not to worry!

So will I complete my purchase and IVA is now dependent on three pieces of admitedly large pieces of timber not being in a proper place!


I have to admit that I am laughing now that the family and our future is dependent on an expert giving an opinion on 3 pieces of missing timber!

Bit of look for you im'e a joiner with 20 years behind me.
The timbers would they be purlims, rafters, ridge,jack rafters, diminishing rafters, hips, it must be a traditional roof.
Paste a bit of the survey on here because it's not always bad news or expensive sounds as though somebody has removed the timber or it was never put in in the first place.
Don't pay anyone (builders as they don't know).
It is possible you could do it yourself.

It was one of the V shape pieces missing!

The purchaser didn't bring the survey over so no one knew what was actually said!

The guy who came arond didn't think it was a problem as the house was built in the late 40's or early 50's

His remark was that it wouldn't cost to much and the purchaser could put a loft conversion in and that would mean replacing a lot of the timbers anyway!

Then we had the fuss about rising damp which really became amusing when he did the readings and found there was none!

Infact he really backfired on the purchaser and his surveyor!

So we will see what happens today!
