I have an IVA and I’m getting married next year. Will my IVA affect my husband to be in any way, for example will he have to contribute to it? We are also thinking of starting a family next year, will I be able to whilst taking part in an IVA if I can continue paying? I dont really want to wait to start a family as I still have 4years left!
Thank for any advice.

Hi cheryls and welcome to the forum
Are you and your partner already living together? If so, how do you share your household bills? If not, when you do start co-habiting, your IP will expect you to share those bills in the same ratio as your relative incomes. Starting a family ought not to be a problem, providing you work out your finances and ensure that you can afford to continue with your payments whilst on maternity leave and beyond.

Hey,
Yes we are already living together and we share the bills so my IVA was not affected. I guess the main thing I am worried about is that once we are married his income will be taken into account and he will have to contribute to the IVA.

Hello cheryls,
Thank you for the post and welcome to the forum.
If you are already living together, I would have thought his income would be taken into account. Isn't that the case?

When I took out the IVA we didn't live together. On my year review I was told that I didn't have to give his salary. Will this change when we get married? All debts are in my name and I got into debt when I wasn't with him so I don't see why he should have to pay towards it.

Was your partner living with you and contributing to the bills at your review.
If he is now living with you and contributing towards the bills - your disposable income has increased ???

Yes my partner was living with me a contributing to the bills when I had my review.
Before I lived with him I lived with friends and I was paying x amount on rent. I then moved into a new flat with my partner where I pay the same amount of rent and bills so I don’t have any extra disposable income.
Yes he has disposable income but that’s his money not mine!
I hope this makes sence.

Hi
You do not have to put your husbands/partners income down if they are not in an IVA.However you do have to adjust your expenditure to reflect that someone else is contributing to household costs and this will increase your disposible income and hence the payments into your IVA.

I dont understand as I'm still paying the same household costs I always have. Moving in with my partner has not reduced the bills, he pays his half and I pay mine. Its not like I was living by myself before and he has moved in with me there for my bills would be half the amount. When I 1st started my IVA I was sharing household bills with my friends, now I'm sharing them with my partner thats the only differenc. I do not have any extra disposible income as I'm still paying the same amount out. I'm a little confused as to why you think I will need to pay more into my IVA?
Thank for your help

Hi
You won,t if your expenses are still the same, but your IP may want to see that you are paying a fair proportion towards household expenses compared to your income.

They haven't asked for it so I guess they dont want it and my IP knows I moved house and that I live with someone. My pay and my bills are the same as when we set up the IVA so hopefully I'm just worrying about nothing.
Thanks again for youe help
