Hi
Yes,it will only be arrears,up until the time of the IVA.You will need to keep upto date with them after that, afterall you have a budget to enable you to do that once in an IVA.

Hi Flynnkins,

If you have included your council tax arrears into your IVA, this should be for previous years, which you will then not have to pay for. However you will have to continue paying the current year.

i never knew that...what about other arrears...phone, gas etc...can they be included ?

I was 2 months in arrears with council tax about 8 months ago and asked if i could pay it off bit by bit...they said no as its a goverment tax and not a normal bill.

we got it sorted and pay direct debit now each month.

Hi Ang,

In cases that I see when an individual has arrears in electricity & gas etc with their current provider, we usually urge the client to come to some arrangement with the company to pay extra each month until the arrears are paid. If however the bill is from a different property and/or provider then this could be included in the IVA.

The thinking behind paying the arrears off instead of placing it in the IVA, is this way you are not at danger of having your electricity/gas/phone etc being cut off.
