Hi johonnie

It is definately £485 and you will have to pay it in cash. I can understand why you would be scared, I was too, but if its any consolation, I was treated with respect and had no dirty looks from anyone. You either report to the relevant counter, in my case they called me, asked for the forms (as I had made an appointment they were expecting me), checked them over, asked for the money, asked if I had a problem reading a short statement with my hand on the bible, and that was it. Upstairs, sat down for two minutes, was called in to see the judge, sent out to correct some forms, waited quite a while, was called in again and 20 secs later----- BR!!

Remember, when the Judge asks if you have sought advice/help, say yes. He will also ask you if you understand the implications of BR and if you are happy for him to go ahead and declare you BR. And thats it, all done except for the OR interview which you will be contacted about.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Sue

£485 per person is the correct figure.

I am also taking with me all my bills, a years bank statements, wage slips and a cot breakdown. I thought this might help and show that i have prepared myself? Any thoughts?

No thanks necessary! - but you are welcome anyway. You don't have to take all your bills etc as you won't be seeing the OR to go through them. All you need are your BR petition forms (3 to be on the safe side), don't sign them as you have to do it in front of the clerk. You will be told by the clerk when the OR will be contacting you and he will give you your "certificate" (LOL) that you are BR! The OR will then give you a phone call, it will be about 15mins and he/she will inform you when your interview will be and whether it will be face to face or telephonic.

Mine was telephonic, lasted about 2 hours and I was shattered afterwards with a great big banging headache!!! Although I must admit she was very kind and when I got emotional she said she would stop and let me make a cup of tea! They are all human after all!

I did go back and read your previous threads and it seems to me you have a very loving and supportive partner, as do I, for without them where would we be!

Take a deep breath, relax and chill out this evening, open a bottle of wine if you have one spare, and toast your future - one that is debt free.

Take good care of yourself

It depends on how busy the local OR's office is. Sue's was a few days later, while mine was nearly 2 weeks after going to court. My interview was also on the telephone, but it only lasted about 25 minutes - each case is different.

You're welcome Jhonnie.

I remember how I felt the night before - absolutely terrified! Dave went to court with me, we had a row on the way there as he asked me to read a map (I can't!) and he told me to get out and walk - until I pointed out it was my car! It was only nerves, and the fact he was daft enough to expect me to navigate!

You will be fine tomorrow, and when it sinks in you will feel such a relief that it is finally over and done with - no one can hassle you again.

Skippy

For the interview what do they ask? is it about bills??? Just not too sure what to expect especially with such time differences as 25 mins to 2 hrs.

All the examiner went through with me was why I got into debt, when I'd taken out the loans and what the money was spent on. She didn't really mention my credit cards. When you have the interview I would recommend having a copy of the BR statement of affairs in front of you, and also copies of any statements or loan agreements - you can then look at them when you're talking so you know what they are referring to!
