I went onto one of those internet comparison sites last night, looking for car insurance for the eldest Torchlette who lives with us at the moment.
Picked out one that looked ok, and, as Torchlette1 wasn't sure what to do, i made the phone call for her.
Albeit i was using her visa debit card, i felt very nervous when the chap said,"whilst this goes through i will be conducting a credit check".
Gulp! i thought.
The visa debit card is with lloyds tsb, our biggest creditor.
But, lo and behold, all went through ok.
So, doesn't look like the Torchlettes will be affected by our
history, nor our address.

The sins of the fathers ... and all that [:D]

I had a similar experience yet ... Gwen Tegg's son (I think it's Martin) was telling me last weekend in Birmingham about the Vodafone roaming internet access facility so I thought I'd check it out as my mobile phone account is with Vodafone. I went on the website to order a modem and it said a credit check would be necessary ... gulp ... I phoned them up instead and because I already had an account they added it to it ... no credit check, thank goodness. A heart stopping moment though eh!

There's so many things that involve credit checks. You don't realise until you are super aware and don't want one carried out.

It was fine when hubby joined EDF. We joined before br but must have still had a shocking credit history as we hadn't paid any creditors for nearly a year. If you look on the T&C on their site it should state as they do need your permission to carry a search out but normally 'hide' it in there....

I upgraded my mobile with Vodafone last week and I was nervous when she said she was putting the order through! They can't have credit checked me though as I got a better deal than a new customer!

I've just left my contract mobile & car insurance installments with the same companies... I just keep renewing. I dont think they credit check on renewals.

I also kept my mobile contrcat going with Vodafone ... indeed I have a second account which used to be for my daughter which I keep ticking over at a minimal amount of £20 a month ... as I am sure that I read somewhere that such accounts can help to repair one's credit worthiness, which may come in useful when I go to re-mortgage in a few years time?

That's why I've kept mine Debbie. I've only ever missed one payment with Vodafone (their fault not mine) so I thought it would be worth keeping it to help my credit rating. I would be better off financially on pay as you go, but I know I wouldn't get another contract if I wanted to change back.
