Hi
Ive just heard that Barclays are now offering debit cards with their basic accounts, is this true? if so what type of card are they offering?
Im just thinking of opening a second account just incase I have problems with Halifax.

Is it a good account and are they linked with Barclaycard, my IVA firm said that they are different to one and another

Just from a quick look ive found that the basic cash card acount gives you a choice of a connect card or cash card.
I assume a connect card is there debit card. It does say you need to apply for an account in branch or over the phone.

I've heard that you now get a debit card with this account. I think the only downside of it now is that you don't get internet banking.

Think I might apply for it by phone tomorrow as a second account just incase I have problems with Halifax, especially with Lloyds taking over with Halifax and Lloyds closed my account because of my IVA even though I had no debt with Lloyds!

Let us know how you get on Stu as I would be interested as I would like a second account with a debit card for shopping and petrol.

We are ok with our Barclays account, its got a few direct debits we set up and the lack of a debit card does not bother us, as we use cash for everything! There is a cash machine in my local Morrisons so I just draw the cash out as I am going around with my shopping. If I need to order anything online, I give my daughter the cash and she orders it for me, I did have a Bread card but have had numerous problems with it, so I don't use it anymore.

I've a barclays and halifax account, both have debit cards and internet banking. I've never had a problem with either of them. They were both opened prior to the iva though.
The only thing I've had from Barclays was an offer for reduced fees if I went overdrown. A week later I got another letter saying that due to my financial circumstances the offer was being withdrawn. Like I wanted it anyway!

when we opened our barclays account, we had just been made bankrupt, the form never asked about it so we never mentioned it! oops.
everytime I go into the branch, the cashier always asks "is there particluar reason why you only have a basic account? do you want to upgrade it? [:D] I just say, no thanks, I am happy as I am![:0]

Just to aswer one of your previous posts Stu, Barclaycard is owned by Barclays Bank. Don't know why your IP told you they weren't connected.

My IP just said that they were not financially linked with one another and therefore it would be safe to have a barclays basic account with having Barclaycard as 4 of my creditors

They are linked, and I think you need to open an account at a bank other than Barclays. Barclaycard were one of my creditors and I had to change my Barclays account.

Surely if Stu applies for an account and Barclays open one then it wouldn't be a problem as he's already in an IVA?
