I am a month behind on payments to all but a couple of my creditors. I have my first appointment with IP tomorrow morning and understand that it could take 6-8 weeks from then until the IVA (or whatever we decide) to be put in place. I don't have enough money each month to meet minimum payments, I wouldn't be here if I did, but should I try to make some kind of payment in the meantime? At the moment I feel a bit like "in for a penny etc" and sod it they can wait to hear from the IP!

What does your IP advise? I usually suggest to my clients that they make some form of token payment to creditors during this hiatus period, as sometimes this can stop the flow of letters and telephone calls which can be irritating or upsetting, but other IPs will tell you not to pay anything.

In reality it makes little difference whether you pay or not to the outcome of your IVA.

Your IP will advise you. What we do is to write to all of your creditors and advise them that you have sought professional advice that might lead to either proposing an IVA/DMP and that they should send us an uptodate statement of your account. It should not take 6 weeks to do that. In the meantime either pay a nominal amount which might help (as Melanie says) the letters coming.
