Hi

Dont know if anyone can help me with this or can tell me if they have had different information from the Abbey.

Basically i have a full current account with Abbey and informed them of my BR. They have said i cannot keep the account and it will be shut down (even if the or is not interested in it). I am not allowed to open a basic account with them now as they dont allow BR people. The only way i could keep a basic account is if 1. I had a joint basic account with someone else who did not go br or 2. If i previously had a basic account open with them prior to br.

She did seem very certain of this. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi Jenny, as far as I know the only banks who will let you open an account when you are BR are the Co-op and Barclays.

I tried opening an account with Abbey once I was discharged, but they (unsuprisingly!) only offered me the basic account, and it was a bit too basic compared to the Co-op!

Thanks Skipps

I already have the co-op as you have previously advised me of certain things that could or would happen.

I have just phoned coop and i can start using my account now without fear of any comeback

Thanks for another piece of great advice

Hi Moneyworries,
I can't praise the Co-op enough. I open my cash saver account with them when my IVA was going through and they've been great. I have an Abbey savings account - in caseI sell anything on e-bay or do agency work for emergency situations and there was no problem with that.
Glad Skippy helped you out,
Best wishes,
Chardonnay
