Just a wondering question...
Within my IVA I have included a sofa (approx £1000+) i took this sofa out in my name only, but it was for a flat with my girlfriend. We split up but she kept the sofa.
What would happen if i removed this from my IVA? I guess i'm stuck as it's in my name, but it makes me angry that i'm paying for her to sit down every night!!
Thanks for your advise.

Hi, and welcome

Afraid you can't remove any debt from your IVA. You're stuck with it.

Really sorry about your situation but as you rightly state, the deed was done in your name and they will chase you for the debt.

Probably best for your own sake just to move on from it all. We never know whats around the corner and while it sucks to think youre paying for something you dont have, there isnt a lot you can really do.

Hi
As it is in your name I think that there is very little that you can do other than to go and get it and to possibly sell it. You could then put the proceeds into the IVA

Did you think of taking the sofa when you separated, as you effectively own it if the debt is in your name? Perhaps you could ask for it back?

I would ask for it back. Can only say no. Other than that there isnt alot that can be done about

You could do that and get it back but would you really want to do that. As annoying as it is that she is sitting down at your expense, be the better person and do the right thing.

I couldnt take it back, its not in my nature.

Hi there

I understand it must be irritating but the only person who is being affected by thinking about the sofa is you.

I couldn't agree with Lily more, sometimes you need to put things behind you and move on as you are only hurting yourself.

If it makes you feel any better your sofa is included in your iva, so unless you are returning 100% to your creditors, you will not be paying the full price for it.

Good luck
Emma

Sometimes it helps just to have a rant and get things off your chest. Mind you, I did tell Dave that if we ever split up I'm taking the fridge freezer as I paid for it!

I'm glad you've decided to rise above it. As the others have said, move on and show you are a better person.

God forbid hubby and I ever split, but I will lovingly give him the entire kitchen [:D]

Good luck xx

I'd only need the fridge freezer to keep my ready meals in - he can keep everything else in the kitchen!

hi again

Glad you now feel able to move on, a good rant was obviously what you needed.

I lived with a boyfriend many years ago and it was an awful relationship, I knew I had to get out asap. I made the decision one day and just said I was taking the dog for a walk (I was never going to leave my baby behind!!) and I never went back or had any further contact with him.
For a while I was really angry as left all furniture, appliances and literaly only had the clothes I was wearing at the time. Then I realised I was happy and healthy and could build the material posessions back up in time.

You will move on and be happy again and in the grand scheme of life a sofa is quite insignificant[:D]

Good luck
E x

Good on you faculty, youre the better person for it too. Anytime you want a rant, feel free. We all do need it from time to time and it puts things into perspective.
