I need to move soon and wonder if anybody could recommend a letting agent who is sympathetic towards people in an IVA? North London.

I'm not sure what area they cover or where there offices are but, John German ask for a guarantee from someone who is prepared to sign to say they will make the payments should you not. This wouldonly be if you failed there credit reference checks.
Many other agents will ask for 6 months rent up front, which is pretty much impossible for people in an IVa.
You could try calling or emailing agents near you and see what there terms are for people who fail there checks.

Hi
Just be totaly upfront with the letting agent.
It's a competitive market and you may be pleasantly surprised

Hi there
My husband and I were forced to move house one year into our IVA.
We manged to rent a house through a private landlord management company. We told the agent all about the IVA at the initial viewing and we just had to provide the name of a guarantor.
I did ring a few letting agents when we were looking for a house and most of them said the same thing.........either 6 months rent upfront and then monthly from then on or the usual deposit with a guarantor.
Good Luck [:)]

I have written references for people in IVA who need to find alternative rented accommodation. The prospective landlord has normally been quite happy with this and a copy of an income and expenditure account which shows my client's ability to meet the rental payments as well as his or her other expenses.
You should ask the Supervisor of your IVA to see if he would do something similar.
