good morning, was just browsing the pre paid cards section on here as i think my new bank account only allows a cash card not even visa electron (which is fine but i find it handy to have eg for tescos shopping rather than taking cash as never totoally sure what bill will come to) fair fx look to be good but just to confirm you pay £10 to set up one off fee then you dont pay to use it or put money on it? it seems like some charge you everytime you use it or put money on it which seems a bit unfair? who do you thin[?]k is best to go with? do you receive statments etc like a normal credit card? please advise, many thanks R

Hi,
It depends on what card you use. I have a Paypal card which cost nothing to set up, nothing to put money across if you do it via direct debit or from the post office. I've not used it yet, but I think you may have to pay to withdraw cash and possibly for transactions, but not sure.
Bread do one as well. There are a lot of people on here who use them, and who I am sure will come on to tell you about theirs.
Don't know about the statements.

I've got a Tuxedo card. It cost £10 to set it up, and I was paying £4.95 a month for unlimited usage until recently. I've now changed to the pay as you go version as I've got a Visa Electron card with both my Co-op accounts so I don't really need it any more.
I've never had any real problems with the Tuxedo card. You don't get a paper statement, but your statement is always available online.

David's company Cleardebt also offer a pre-paid card - I think that you can find the details on his profile section.

I've just got a cashplus card. It was £10.00 for the card which included the first monthly charge of £4.95. It costs nothing to use apart from the monthly fee, and putting money on is free at the post office or by bank transfer. There is a small charge for cash withdrawals but I dont intend to use it for that anyway. I incur a lot of ongoing work expenses (petrol, hotels etc) that I claim back monthly, and dont want them coming out of my bank account as I need to know where I am with that. So, I am now waiting for my October expenses to be repaid to me, and I will be topping up the card with that and keep repeating the process every month so I know that everything I have in my current account is for my personal living expenses and I can keep the company stuff seperate.
