My IVA will have been completed a year in February next year. All my defaults are marked as satisfied and yet ever few weeks I have a call from a foreign call center asking me how much debt I have cc ect. I tell them I have none but they say their records show I have debts. When I ask them where they got their information from they just say the information was from public available records. I have told them I do not have any debt and not to call me but still they do. Where could they be getting their information from and what would be the best way of stopping the calls ? I dont want to forget about my IVA as such but I dont want it been dragged back up every month by a call about debts. The only thing I could do which I really dont want to do is to change my Tel no.

What a wierd one! do they actually say why they are ringing? It may be that they are a debt company ringing to offer a soution (one of the type of company to avoid...never take up anything from a cold call) Why not just state I am in an IVA and tell them not to contact you further ( i find the best way to do this is not in a polite way!!!)
Be interested to find out why the were ringing you though?

I take it your name has come off the register? It should have done, but might be an idea to check.
Ask them what the company is, then phone them in their office in this country (if they have one), and tell them to stop hassling you!
Otherwise I'd just put the phone down when you realise it's them.

Ahhhhhh. They just called again. Call goes something like this.
Hello is that MR ----
We are from a group of companies called money management . Do you know there is a little known law which allows you to write of a large amount of you debt.
That is now the third time this week. Have checked and my name is of the register. Just dont know where they got my details from. They dont seem able to grasp that I dont owe any money. When I ask them to take my details of their system they just hang up.

My favourite is to tell them that you are very interested in what they have to say but you have a pot on the stove that you have to turn down, would they mind holding for a second? If you then go and watch Coronation Street, or whatever, for 20 minutes or so then you will find that they are not there when you get back and also that they will have got the message and are unlikely to waste their time, and phone bill, calling you again.
Regards.

Funnily enough just had a similar call. Told them I was in process of sorting things out. They asked if I was on a DMP (which I'm not)(as yet!)I said yes, they asked how much I was paying each mnth, I told them I wasn't prepared to discuss it and goodbye. Thought it was just a random coincidece as I'm rarely home during the day. My credit file is pretty clean as I've been meeting payments until this month-mostly by more borrowing(long story, what a fool). I wonder where the info is coming from? Is somebody somewhere breaking the Data Protection act?
I should have told them I am on a telephone preference list which I am) which is supposed to stop cold calls.

Size 5, I do love your tack on cold calls. Will try that one out next time I get one. I normally let them go on for a bit and then ask them a question which it will be impossible for them to answer (e.g. double glazing companies are normally asked what they do in stone mullion)

I haven't worked out how to use the smileys on here, but if I had there would be one here now, I love abstract questions/answers that completely throw people off the scent!!
