I've just found this - talk about hitting those who can least afford it!

See where you are coming from on this one, however as somone who has a number of relatives who work in the area that deals with these loans they are not always going to the most needy. I also remember that before this approach existed then it was a grant system that people applied to. This was abolished by the Tories.


What we really need is a better more reasonable approach that can help those in most need. In the situation we all find ourselves in then help to get out of it is what is required, I see none of that in any measure been applied, it is all about banks.

I have to agree with John - as some who sees these issued day in day out, some of the reasons people are being given handouts beggars belief - a much more structured approach is needed !

I totally agree. The problem is it's the people who genuinely need help who are going to get hammered, not the ones who know how to play the system. It's the same with the benefit reforms - the genuinely needy will suffer, while the people who don't want to work won't.

Credit Unions are good as normally charge a very very low rate of interest. This labour government are so out of touch with reality they should all be shot! They have caused the credit crunch by allowing greedy banks to go unchecked. Nice to see that Barclays Bank boss apologising.
