Hi

Can anyone recommend a prepaid card with no monthly charges, and low top up and transaction fees. I find that i am drawing money out of the bank, and i would like to control my money better, but dont want to be charged the earth to use it.

I am sure that David Mond's Cleardebt have a prepaid card which is worth looking into. David is not allowed to advertise his firm's services on the site, but I can suggest that you take a look at the website to see if it fits your needs. Other posters will have more experience of this no doubt.

Try the Tuxedo card, has had very good press and are the major player in the pre paid market.

Davids card has a monthly fee of £9.99 plus 50p per time for withdrawing cash.

There is a link on the right hand side of this site which compares prepaid cards.

I myself have a Paypal card - no monthly charge, £1.00 to top up at a post office, but nil if you do it through the bank. I think there is a charge for withdrawing cash, but not sure how much that is.

On my computer, on the right hand side immediately adjacent to the topics, there is the Frugal Friends map, then underneath it is a little box with Prepaid cards,and a link to compare them.

Cashplus prepaid card.....the best ever. No I don't work for them but this card does something like a credit or VISA debit card - takes preauthorisations - the bit where your money is earmarked to pay but hasn't gone yet. This card is useful for hotel bookings.....as with other cards it just debits and its gone!

But its a pound per transaction for the pay as you go one and but its the best all round card.

You never know when you may need a card that have preauthorised transactions - car,hotel booking.One card does it all and with a customer service that doesn't use 0871 or 0900 numbers!!

Sounds very expensive though - a cost every time it is used for the Cashplus card

The cashback utility card looks very enticing.[one pound a month charge with unlimited and no purchasing fee] But then it say subscribe to one of their other ultilty services to get the card at £9.99....darn...so I stick with my cashplus for now.

I no longer use a prepaid card as I really object to paying to spend my own money! I'm lucky as I've got a Visa Electron card with my Cashminder accounts, and the only place I had a problem using it was Marks and Spencer online. Other than that it's been pretty good.

I had problems with the Cashplus card - when I first applied they wanted more ID from me (I had just moved and wasn't on the electoral roll), which I didn't have at the time. As I couldn't send it to them I can't apply again - I need to get my driving licence or passport certified and send it to them and they will process the original application. I'm certainly not paying to have anything certified as I don't see why the original application (over a year ago) can't be cancelled and I reapply.

I am with you skippy. I dont see why I should pay to use my own money. These companies are raking in money off people who require the services,brighthouse,yes car credit etc etc.
