Hi,
My boyfriend has an IVA which has been in place for about 6 months. He is about to attend an interview for a new job and been advised that there will be a process of Positive Enhanced Vetting - he is worried that he will fail due to the IVA.
Can you advise if an IVA has any affect on the Positive Enhanced Scoring? He has never had a criminal conviction or County Court Judgement/
Many thanks
Fiona

Hi and welcome.
I must admit that I have never heard of that vetting. What job is he going for?
One of the technical experts will be along to help shortly.

Hi Fiona and welcome to the forum.
Can i ask what type of job/role your boyfriend is applying for? The only thing for "Positive Enhanced Vetting" i could find was for police entry checks.
There are various vetting levels in various roles that are okay for the applicant to be in an IVA.
For instance Basic Clearance and full SC level security clearance both allow people to be in an IVA. The main thing is to be totally honest on the forms. I had to complete an additional "Financial Questionnaire" to show all my income/expenditure. The main reason for this is to assess how "bribeable" a person might be in a position with clearance.
I cannot over stress the importance of honesty on these forms. If they find something that you lied about you will fail clearance/vetting on the basis that you are an untrustworthy person. If you are up front they if required will discuss with you.
Not sure regarding DV clearance (Developed Vetting) clearance although i was pretty sure that an IVA/BR was a no no.
Hope this helps a bit.

If it's just a CRB check, then there is no problem. I do know that certain police forces won't employ you if you are in an IVA or BR until 3 years after it has finished, but those questions are usually asked on the initial application form.

You can have an IVA if you are required to have Developed Vetting, but it must be fully disclosed to the vetting officer who will want to know that you have kept up with the payments.
It is then discretionary as to whether you will get the security clearance, but these days the security authorities are more knowledgable about debt and the reasons which cause people to suffer from financial difficulties.
You can expect a fairly hard grilling on the reasons for the debts as well, and this will be taken into consideration when the authorities are deciding whether to provide the higher level of clearance.

Hi - no the is more than a CRB check - I can not say what the role is due to the nature of the role. This is the second interview so he got through the application process.

Hi - many thanks for your informative reply. Is Developed Vetting the same as Positive Enhanced Vetting? If the security questionnaire only asks about CCJ and Criminal Conviction, should he put down the IVA? Are companies able to search for IVA Information?
Many thanks

Hi
Details of your IVA are on the online Insolvency register, open to all.

If there is any doubt as to whether this is going to affect his application then I personally would come clean with the HR department and ask the question or at least make it known that although in an IVA all payments are up to date with no issues outstanding.
Being up front from the outset may help and support his application.

I reckon it could be okay as DV is the highest level of vetting according to the security services websites although if it is work for the security services they will reject anyone currently in an iva for obvious reasons.
It all depends on the vetting agency depending on the role. I'd just ask.

Your boyfriend presumably is seeking employment in some form of government or police service. For 40 years enhanced positive vetting has been applied in this country and if the area of your boyfriends role is linked to something where a financial decision on matters are required then I believe he would have to disclose the fact that he is in an IVA. Good luck.

If it is the police service, he will have to disclose it anyway, it is one of the questions on a standard application form in many forces.
