Hi everyone, hopefully someone can answer this. Me and my Wife are currently in the process of applying for an IVA with cleardebt but one of our creditors is Mint who my wife has a credit card and loan with. We have recently (last two months) opened a natwest step account which is joint.

my question is can Mint take money out of mine and my wife's account seeing as they are owned by the same company?

What is the likelihood of them doing this as both our salaries are paid into the account?

Also seeing as I personally don't owe Mint and monies and the account is joint does that make a difference?

Any comments from people with previous experience of this type of scenerio would be very much appreciated.

I would doubt it, but take advice on this point directly from the IP acting for you. David is bound to be on line later on.

Hi,

You will obviously be ok with the account as you don't have any creditors with that bank, but I am not sure about your wife. Once the IVA is up and running, then her money will be safe, but until them I suppose it is possible for them to take some out.

However, David Mond and Size5 from Cleardebt both post on here so they should be able to advise you.

Can I suggest that you open an alternative basic bank account just incase so that you are ready to move things if necessary. As others have said it is doubtful but as they are owned by the same company it is possible - personally my view would be to move it to a different company - Abbey have a good basic account Instant Plus with Visa Electron, and Smile (Co-op) have a good current account - both are ok with people in IVA's - Halifax Easy Cash is another one.

The Co-op Cashminder account is a good one as well - it's a basic bank account but comes with a Visa Electron and online banking.

Hi Positive Kel. I don't thimk you will have any problem BUT without seeing the paperwork indicating whether other companies in the NatWest group are able to to take out monies from your wifes Mint Accont then cannot safely advise you just yet. Can you please forward the paperwork when you opened the joint account and we'll check it. In the meantime it might not be a bad idea to open an account at the Co-op. I will get my guys to speak to you on this.
