My partner has an IVA that he has been paying for over 2 years. He wants to move in with me and we want to get married but will that have any effect on my property etc. Eg will his debts then become my debts?

Hi Lesley and welcome to the forum.
If your partner moves in with you or you get married it won't have any effect on your property, and his debts won't become your debts.
If you move in together your partner's IP will want details of your income, but only to make sure that you are each paying your fair share towards the bills, i.e. if you earn £2000 per month and your partner earns £1000 they would want to see that you are paying 2 thirds and he is paying a third.
One other thing - if you are married you are automatically associated on your credit files and cannot file a notice of disassociation. You might find that this would affect your credit score, but don't let this put you off!
Good luck x

Hi, Are you sure that if you marry you are automatically associated on your credit files? I am married and my wife and I have no association on our credit files?

I would have thought that the only association you would have had would be if you had joint loans together.
Surely if your partner runs up debts that are nothing to do with you (particularly if you live apart), that you would be able to disassociate yourself?
I could be wrong though!

You've made me doubt myself now! Sorry if I'm wrong and I hope one of the experts will be able to confirm!

I've just found this post and it looks as though providing you don't have any financial links you should be ok:

I don't thing the CRAs would pick up a marriage after an IVA to be honest, but again I am no expert in this area. If Storm is looking in, he will know the right answer.
As other posters have mentioned, the effect of a combined household income could result in a readjustment of your payments, but that will depend on the ratio's of your respective earnings.
