Hi,
Tonight we had a call from a company called Money Matters - my husband answered it.
Now if it was me I would tell them where to go, but my husband listens to their talk and how they can help us etc.
He told them we ere in in IVA and had been for nearly a year and paid approx 900 a month. The guy told him that we could pay just £150 a month!!!!
I told my husband to tell them where to go as there is no way this istrue etc - I mean 150 a month works out at just over 6 grand....the rest is written off!!!
Trouble is my husband likes to believe these people and is arguing to me that it must be true and this guy says they have 1000's of customers who owe more than us and pay just this a month.
Now I am quite happy to pay what we are (well as happy as I can be).....but husband is saying well why are we paying this much.
I just want to know if anyone else has had dealing with this company and how I can explain to my husband that we are with a reputable co (McCambridge Duffy), and that it is all worked out on earnings and what is owed etc (which he knew, but this guy has put doubts in his head)

It may be a life long DMP he is offering Kal or else he is from planet big fat liar, thats the launguage he is speaking in.

He said over 5 years!!!!
Trouble is he was obviously very convincing - well to my husband...like I say I would have hung up, but no he listened, and then we got into an argument as to why we are paying so much.

Your husband has to remember you are paying what you can afford,so why does he think some miracle company can convinced your creditors to accept anything less??

The people who phone are meant to be convincing,thats why its better not to listen to them. Dont be too hard on your hubby,I am quite sure he just wants to do whats best and if someone was to say you could pay 700 odd quid less than you are its going to be easy to be taken in.

Thanks Paul - That's exactly why I don;t listen to them. Trouble is I have a feeling they will call off as they just cut off.
I will have to make sure I answer the phone and get to them first to tell them what I think!

These companies seem to be saturating the market with calls and letter at the moment. Hopefully, not many people will be taken in by them.

They will advise you to go bankrupt, at a cost, then massage your income and expenditure figures so that you only pay £150 in an income payment order.
You are with a very reputable firm, so rest assured that you have been given the best advice.

If you are happy with the IVA, and can afford the monthly payments, why would you want to stop paying £900 and only pay £150?

The information you have been given is absolute rubbish, and you appear to be another victim of the easy accessibility to the insolvency register.

Hopefully Michael Peoples of McCambridge Duffy will read this post and act accordingly if he feels that you have been inappropriately targeted. David Mond's recent precedent case, ought to be making these firms very nervous about their methods of contact.

Thanks everyone - I have read all your replies to my husband and he now understands and realises their underhanded methods of getting to us.
It annoys me that they have managed to drag it all up again, and start my husband thinking we have not domne the right thing.
I know I am with a good firm and have so far been happy with the service I have had.

Glad we have managed to make him see what a waste of time these companies are.

I do wonder though, just how many people will begin to doubt that their IVA is the right thing and pay this firm to 'assist; them.
