It has been announced this morning that British Gas are to reduced the price of their Gas to customers by 10% for people of standard rate gas.

Brilliant news at last !!

I believe it is not till next month though?

Quick enough to increase, very slow to decrease but I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies.

We won't benefit from this, as we've capped our tariff.

I'm with Atlantic, so don't know whether they will put theirs down or not.

Mind you, the wholesale price of gas has fallen 42% since July, so they're not passing a lot on.

I am jealous about all British Gas customers. We are on LPG and it costs me nearly £300 to fill my tank up which lasts about 6 weeks in the winter. Dreadully expensive.

No we live in a village where there is no piped gas, and pay a fortune as you can see. I also cannot bear to be cold, so Mum and I are cosy, and hubby is in shorts and flip flops in protest!

I agree with size5, nice of them to drop it 10% as we are moving towards warmer months. God knows how much they have made out of us over the last three months.

Our monthly payment has gone up 110% since April this year to cope with the massive price hikes after our IVA was accepted. We did the same as Skippy and capped the price because we knew we wouldn't be able to pay any more on our budget.

Our one saving grace, is that we paid off a small debit to wipe the slate clean before the last quarter, to which we were told that," We like you to be at least £100 in credit before going into the winter months!"
To which we replied, "I bet you would"[:p]

I think it's disgusting that they expect you to be that much in credit! Why? As long as you pay your bills, it shouldn't matter.

Melanie, I love to be toasty warm as well. Hubby will often moan that he is hot, but I always reply that I am 'just right', and I sit right on top of the radiator!

Is that British Gas BOT? We weren't told that, and to be honest I don't know if we're paying enough - hopefully we won't get a nasty shock when we get the next bill!

Yes it is Skippy, they wanted us to up our payments by another £25 a month!

I'm not surprised as I read about them increasing direct debits without permission. We're only with them as they were the only ones offering a capped tariff at the time.

Got my gas and electricity bill today direct debit gone up by £10 of what we're allowed on I&E, will include evidence when I send the I&E back at the end of Jan.

my supplier advises you to be in credit before the winter to cover winter (higher usage) and hopefully get you to a zero balance at your spring review. If you do not have any credit you may find that you owe alot of money around march/april time. Remember regardless of what tariff you are on, you must be covering your usage, if your usage increases , so does your direct debit even if you are on a capped rate. The unit prices remain the same on capped but if your usage goes up dramatically you will be expected to pay for it. Also, you use the electricity in advance as you get billed quarterly (after you have used it), unless you are on a prepayment meter, and then you pay as you go.
