Mobile phone companies will usually carry out a credit check, and the IVA is then bound to be visible.

yes i thought this just wondered if some companies are more leniant regarding them I heard 02 are. been unlucky this year I was in the process of putting in a full and final offer but my mothe rhas been made redundant so that put a end to that! I guess all i can do is try them out to see if I get accepted!

Someone posted this week about O2 having a sim only contract for people with poor credit ratings.

The o2 sim only is for people who are refused a handset from o2 on contract due to bad credit report.
Its no good if you dont want the handset.
I was advised by o2 over the phone to go into my nearest store and i WOULD be given a sim only contract.
WRONG!!!!! I was still refused because i have no credit at all on my credit file.
No credit is as bad as bad credit.
She advised me to get a credit card to build up my rating but to be honest, i would rather not.

Sorry to hear you were refused Mrs Skint. I might try and change to O2 when my Vodafone contract is up, but whether or not they'll let me have one is another matter!

Maybe i should apply for the handset i dont want, knowing they will refuse me then hopefully offer me the sim only deal?
Knowing my luck i will flop that too LOL

Give it a go!
I'll probably stick with Vodafone - I'm only thinking of changing as I'm annoyed with them at the moment. I asked if I could change to a better deal but apparently it's for new customers only. I argued with them, but no good - they said I agreed to my tarriff when I upgraded last year, not that I signed anything.

I find Orange really good and the longer you are with them the better the deals are - ive recently renewed my contract with them and got the same deal as I was on but for less money. I now get 400 minutes a month (which I dont even come close to using) and unlimited texts for just £20 a month.

Given that the credit checks are a usual stumbling block,if a family member knows about your situation ask them if they would take out the contract and pay them monthly, not always an option but if it will save you money its worth a try!!

So it looks like it's only Vodafone who rip their existing customers off!
