This is for my other half whose IVA has failed (finacially, he just couldn't make the payments). So now his IVA company have written to him regarding this, and a few letters from creditors have started to write. He is burying his head under the sand but I know we have to start looking at applying for bankruptcy for him. I remember how stressful it was finding the right IVA company! So can anyone recommend a reputable agency who deals with this? How long is the whole process? How much does it cost?
Thanks so much [:I]

There is no need to pay anyone to help you with bankruptcy. The forms are very easy to fill out and you can download them from the Insolvency Service website. Then a quick call to your local County Court to arrange for an appointment, the collection of £495 to pay for the Court fee and it really is as simple as that.

Hi
You can declare bankruptcy yourself without the assistance of a third party. Just download the forms from the Insolvency Services website, make an appointment at your local County Court and pay the fee of £495 to the court and you will be declared bankrupt. How long it takes will depend on the waiting list but it should be just a few weeks.
If you want to employ the services of a third party, costs around £350, to fill in the forms for you then you can do this.

You don't need a company to go BR as it's a relatively straightforward procedure to do yourself.
Your OH will need to contact his local county court to find out if he needs to make an appointment to go BR, and how long the waiting list is. Some courts have a walk in policy, others have an appointments system.
He can complete the forms online on the Insolvency Service website -
https://www.insolvencydirect.gov.uk/isolv/
Once he has completed the forms and goes to court he will be made BR the same day. He will either speak to the Official Receiver the same day, or they will contact him shortly after to arrange a time for the meeting.
To make yourself BR it costs £495, or £507 (I think) at the High Court in London. If you are on certain benefits you may get a refund of £150.

If you are having problems filling the forms in, CAB can help you and won't charge.
With doing the forms online, you don't have to fill them in all in one go, you can save what you have done, then go back later.
