Hi All,
Not posted for a while as everything was going swimmingly but now I've run into a problem.
First the good news, my other half is pregnant and we go for 20 week scan on Friday. I've already looked into my finances with regards to this and was reasonably happy to maintain a similar level of payments as I've already been paying.
Now, the bombshell today. She has been given 30 days notice of possible redundancy. Couldn't have come at a worse possible time.
I realise it's not definite but it's hard to see beyond it. She will be virtually un-employable by that time as who's going to take on someone who's 24+ weeks pregnant?
Does anyone here have any possible advice on the way forward? I don't want to look at bankruptcy if possible but it does seem like it may be my only option should she lose her job. Without her income it would just not be possible to maintain our IVA payments.

So sorry to hear about your other half's possible redundanc, I do hope it doesn't come to that. You will need to speak to your IP and tell them about the possible change in circumstances and see what they advise.

Hopefully they can do something for you and you won't have to resort to bankruptcy.

It is a shame about your partner's job being in jeperdy, have a chat with your IP abou things and see if there is a way forward with your iva. This is a combintion of things that will affect your finances and while I understand you not wanting to go bankrupt, look at all your options and decide what is best for you and your partner going forward,

again repeat what everyone has said about talking to ip . pregnancy doesnt make some one unemployable . i know the econmic climate hasnt helped , but i went for interview at 20 wks pregnant, got the job , by the time i had my crb check etc , i started my job at 30 weeks pregnant ! she can not be discriminated for being pregnant . ... when baby comes along you will get higher rate of tax credits with baby under 12 months so that will boost you back up a bit .

A possible glimmer of hope has appeared. She has been told that the likely 'end' date would be 3rd April.
This would put her in the 'Qualifying Week' for maternity pay so current employer would have to pay it.

She may well also look at the possibility that if she was made redundant she could argue that it was due to her being expectant. Fingers crossed it wont come to that though.

Bit of an update.
The wife has been told she will find out how many are being let go next Tuesday. Out of a group of 9, she is one of 5 under threat.
The Team Leader and Deputy have been assured roles. 2 others have already been relocated to other areas that they have previously worked.
That leaves 3 full time (including her) and 2 part time.
The 2 part timers have been there longest but have nowhere near the skills of the full-timers. Of the 3 full-timers she probably just edges the skills over one (but they may be classed equal) and has a distinct advantage over the other. She also has the longest time served of the 3.
I reckon this puts her in a strong position but I will be watching closely.
On a personal note, the 20 week scan went very well and we have found out we will be having a boy! Even got a picture of him sucking his thumb! [:)]

Fingers tightly crossed that her job is safe. Let us know next Tuesday how she has got on.
