Hi everyone.

I've a questions for the experts, if you'd be so kind please (and apologies for any typo's or grammatical errors, I'm trying to cook and type [:D]).

My wife and I are in the process of completing an online application for a joint Nationwide FlexAccount, however, within the process it asks if we are bankcrupt or in an IVA. Our problem is we are not sure how we should answer the question? The honest answer right now is "no" as we have only recently applied for Melanie and her team to propose IVA's for us, but equally we don't want to open a new account in readness for the IVA only for the provider to close it once we (hopefully) achieve the IVA. Can anyone recommend how we should answer the question?

Many thanks,

Mark

I can't see what the problem would be if there not one of your creditors.
once it was opened i mean.

How to answer the question?, I wouldn't like to say.

Technically you can answer no. We have a flex account and have had no problems with Nationwide since our IVA was approved.

Have you thought about a Co-op account or a Yorkshire Bank account? Both are sympathetic to people in IVA's.

My wife opened one of those - as I am going for an IVA - they did credit check her but not me even though on the form she put me down as her husband which I am. Cheque book and debit card arrived within 7 working days as they promised.

Nationwide turned us down before we entered into IVA on the credit check. Abbey were ok and gave us debit cards and cheque books

Hi
You can truthfully answer no as you are not in an IVA

I have been a model customer since I have been in IVA however the earning potential for the bank is zero!

Failing that, open an account with either Yorkshire bank or the Co-op. I have both and both are highly recommended

We only have the basic Cashcard account at Nationwide. I applied before we got into financial difficulty, even Experian said there was nothing wrong with our credit rating, but they refused to give us a debit card.

Hour and a half later we had opened a full account complete with credit cards (the final straw!) with Barclays.

Nationwide used to be BR friendly but they changed their policy a while back. I have 2 Flexaccounts with them and the main one is a full account and I worry that they might close it if they suddenly realise I was BR! I suppose it's an extra incentive to make sure that I don't go overdrawn!

Same as Alliance and Leicester - they changed as soon as they were taken over - was told they scan the Insolvency Rgister every day!!(by computer I suppose or they must have an army of staff doing it)

Why bank with Nationwide as they are not what they profess to be - the mutual is credit downgraded, charges for foriegn transactions on its cards; pays poor interest on savings. Last but not least if you cancel your fix rate mortgage with them for a variable rate, they say go else where for your mortgage.

I bank with them and I can testify to that...

Well I'm quite happy with them so I'll be staying with them. I have a full bank account with them so there would be no benefit to me to change to a basic account, their customer service is pretty good and they have branches in many towns.

I presume you're going to change your bank account timeforchange?

Thanks, my son was going to change from his bank (one of my creditors) to Nationwide - he will think again now.
