hi all hope youre well

this is just a hypothetical question (my speciality)

if youre in an iva and you want to do further education how does it work.

dont get me wrong im grateful to have work in this current climate but i feel stuck in a rut and would like to better myself im 34 now and feel i should be looking to a vocation now.

this is hypothetical and obviously further education isnt cheap

am i better waiting for the iva to end and then begin a course ?

obviously my spare money is minimal but maybe if i got some overtime and saved that after my 50% deduction do you think thats the way to go.

sorry for the timing of question thanks again all[:D][:D]

dont laugh but i really wanted to look at going into teaching !

i really would have to resit my maths gcse though as its my weak subject

but again i know teachings a debt sensitive subject but i was hoping if i did a course of considerable length then it would be towards the end of my iva (im only 5 months in)

sorry i know its probably just a pipe dream but i just wanted to seek the advice of my lovely forum buds

not laughing I think teaching is a lovely idea, there are definately not enough good teachers around.. i had to complain at my son's school because of the spelling mistakes the teacher was making!!! I was wondering if maybe you could go to an adult learning evening class run by your local council, they are very cheap and will not impact on your current job ?

well I dont see why you would upset your IP, you would still be earning your normal wage so IVA would go unaffected, it would just mean that any overtime you could save or scrimp from your budgets would go towards the evening classes... i know they are very reasonable..

no problem, let me know if you find a good cheap course... i think it is great to want to improve yourself and there is no reason at all that you cant.. hopefully there is a solution that will work for you and not interfere with your IVA at all xxx

Hi Fergie

Why don't you pursue the Maths GCSE first part-time and then prep for the 'big one'. I know for a fact you can use Tesco Vouchers to pay for GCSE's for distance Learning - remember they are 4 times the amount - so if you have £40 worth that may well do it! Also there are free Maths courses as I started one a few years ago to try and remember for my children (as I can't remember a thing - what is a polygon????). I was only able to stay a short time as the kids came out of school - but it was a great course - with exams at the end - not sure if it was a GCSE but there were exams. The distance learning often have discounted rates and also your local college may do a distance learner at a cheaper rate as they are subsidised by the FE people - I have forgotton their name now. As for your degree - there are burseries etc. available - but as that will be after your GCSE (I am taking it that is the plan) a lot may change in that time - ie you may win the Lottery! Image or something else!! You could also save bits and pieces of money (no matter how small) in a special savings account just for your uni fees! It's amazing how the pennies make the pounds and they just mount up!

Good Luck Fergie - you can do it!!! I think it is fab and am full of admiration for you. Image

I think it is a great idea Fergiedoggy and I would explore all avenues as to how you can go about it. I am sure that there are part time courses you could attend. One thing though it is important that there is no financial impact on your IVA.

No harm in getting information from the link sparklywatcher posted.

Good luck to your endeavours.

Good luck FD - why don't you start with a visit to a careers officer, they should be able to direct you to the right courses.. making sure you're selecting the right one to reach your goal.
